Local groups
There are around 365 Parkinson's UK local groups throughout the UK.
These are run by volunteers who usually have experience of Parkinson's and are supported by Parkinson's UK staff.
The groups welcome family members and carers, and some involve health or social care professionals.
Meetings can be informal - a chance to talk and discuss worries and experiences - or may include a presentation by an invited speaker, such as a healthcare professional or complementary therapist.
Many groups hold social events and activities too.

A life for living
"There’s always someone in the group that says they’ve been through the same things. It’s really good – people understand and you often can’t have those same chats with someone who doesn’t have Parkinson’s."
After Mariëtte was diagnosed with Parkinson's, she put her fears aside and went along to her local group - and has never looked back.
