UK Parkinson’s Audit: important changes announced for the next audit cycle

The UK Parkinson's Audit is extending its cycle from 2 years to 3 years. It's also increasing its scope to include hospital inpatient pharmacy services. Read on to find out more about these changes.

The UK Parkinson’s Audit is the recognised quality improvement tool for Parkinson’s services across the whole of the UK. The last Audit took place in 2022 where 506 services took part, submitting data on care provided to 9,760 patients. 6,795 people also gave feedback on the quality of their Parkinson’s service.

Audit cycle extension

In order to allow services and teams the necessary time to react to their reports, undertake actions for improvements and take part in our national service improvement projects, we’re extending the Audit cycle to 3 years instead of 2 years. This means the next Audit will take place in 2025.

Pharmacies to be included for the first time

Additionally, we’re currently developing an inpatient tool for pharmacists to complete, to audit the quality of care received by people with Parkinson's who are admitted to hospital. We're planning a pilot to include pharmacies in the next Audit. This extended time will also allow us to fully prepare for this further work.

Dr. Anne-Louise Cunnington, UK Parkinson’s Audit Lead said:

"I’m really passionate about improving the quality of care that people with Parkinson's receive when they are admitted to hospital, and this new audit tool, to be completed by pharmacists, is a huge positive step in the right direction to doing exactly this."
