The Parkinson’s Excellence Network is moving to a new regional model in England
Today, we’re pleased to launch our newly-formed Parkinson’s Excellence Network regional model in England.
Since its establishment in 2015, the Parkinson’s Excellence Network has provided regional networking and collaboration opportunities for health and social care professionals. Each Excellence Network region was led by a healthcare professional or person with lived experience of Parkinson’s who very kindly volunteered their time, expertise and support.
Over the last 10 years, the Excellence Network has significantly evolved but regional networking has always remained a key priority.
As the pandemic eased and we gradually began returning to in-person networking, it felt like the right time to review the current regional networking structure and look at new opportunities going forward.
Following an extensive review with many key internal and external stakeholders, we’re pleased to share that we are moving to a new regional model in England.
There are now 7 Parkinson’s Excellence Network (PEN) regions in England, with the boundaries aligned to the 7 NHS England regions. The regional models in the devolved nations remain the same: there are 3 regions in Scotland, 2 in Wales and 1 region in Northern Ireland.

Launching new Regional Clinical Lead roles
To help us deliver this new regional model, we are recruiting a Regional Clinical Lead, on a consultancy basis, to lead each PEN region across the UK, beginning with recruitment in the 7 new regions in England. As these are new roles, we will be gradually rolling them out over the coming months so keep your eye out for upcoming vacancies.
We’re delighted to share that we have appointed a Regional Clinical Lead in the following regions in England:
- North West - Antonella Macerollo, Consultant Neurologist at The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust. Antonella starts in her role on 2 September.
- North East and Yorkshire - We have recently appointed a new Regional Clinical Lead in the North East and Yorkshire regional Excellence Network and will be sharing who they are very shortly so watch this space!
