Introducing Parkinson's Essentials courses
Parkinson's Essentials online courses have been designed to give you as health and social care professionals an introduction to Parkinson's, tailored especially to your field of work and supporting your continuing professional development.
The first 3 Parkinson's Essentials courses in pharmacy, occupational therapy and mental health from the Parkinson's UK Excellence Network are now live for you to explore and start learning. More Essentials courses will be available later in 2025. Read on for a taste of what's included in each new course.
A closer look at Parkinson's Essentials
Each Parkinson's Essentials course is:
- an introduction to Parkinson's focusing on practical steps that professionals can take to improve care for people with the condition,
- 'bite sized': designed to be completed in just 15 minutes, plus time for reflection and signposting to further reading,
- free and simple to access from the Parkinson's UK Excellence Network Learning Hub.
Parkinson's Essentials: Mental health
This course covers both motor and non-motor Parkinson's symptoms, importance of time critical medication, psychological difficulties experienced by people with Parkinson's and the impact of diagnosis on mental health.

Parkinson's Essentials: Pharmacy
This course covers key drug treatments, side effects, contraindications and the importance of time critical medication; common symptoms (motor and non-motor); and strategies to support communication with people with Parkinson's to help them manage their drug regimes.
Parkinson's Essentials: Occupational therapy
This course covers time critical medication and its impact on assessment timing, common symptoms (motor and non-motor), strategies to support mobility, transfers and activities of daily living, and strategies to support patients to manage symptoms linked to cognition, memory and mood.
