Gearing up for the general election
The general election is next week, and the NHS has been high on the agenda during the campaign period.
Parkinson's UK has been working hard during this time to make candidates aware of the Parkinson's community's needs, and the effect the condition has on them.
Driven by the Parkinson's UK strategy 2023 to 2026, the Charity is asking parties, if elected, to:
- take action to make people with Parkinson's feel safe in hospital (including getting their medication on time)
- guarantee better access to healthcare (having Parkinson’s nurses, physiotherapists or speech and language therapists)
- improve cost of living support for people with Parkinson’s and their carers
- support people with Parkinson’s to stay in work.
Health and social care professionals are crucial in helping shape the future of care for Parkinson’s and influence change. Your engagement with Parkinson's UK has enhanced the evidence base of the Charity's policy and campaigning activities.
Whatever the outcome next week, we want to make sure that Parkinson's healthcare is made a priority by those in power.
Here are some of the ways you can help:
Spread the word about Parkinson’s
Candidates are likely to be out door knocking all the way up to, and including election day. The Parkinson’s UK window poster, inviting candidates for a chat about the condition, can be a valuable conversation starter.
Keep Parkinson's UK in the loop
Parkinson’s UK aims to follow up with successful candidates after the election with ways to get involved with the charity. If you do engage in conversation with a local candidate out door knocking, please let them know in order so they can make connections with successful candidates after the election.

Make your vote count
For this election, you’ll need to take a photo ID with you to the polling station. There’s a variety of documents you can take with you, make sure you know which types of ID will be accepted on the day.
