Introducing our new Regional Clinical Leads in England

Following the appointment of Excellence Network Clinical Leads last year, we’re thrilled to share that Parkinson’s UK has appointed 2 more health professionals to lead their Excellence Network regions in England. 

In 2024, we launched our new Regional Clinical Lead roles across England. Our Regional Clinical Leads will play a key role in the delivery of the Excellence Network’s new regional model for England which also launched last year.

We've been gradually recruiting Regional Clinical Leads up and down the country. Last year, we were thrilled to appoint Antonella Macerollo to lead the North West Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network and Sarah Fraser to lead the North East and Yorkshire Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network.

Your new Regional Clinical Leads

And now, we’re delighted to welcome Alistair Mackett and Emily Henderson to the roles as Regional Clinical Leads in the east of England and south west, respectively. Read on to find out more about each of them as well as how to apply for our 2 current Regional Clinical Lead vacancies in England.

Alistair Mackett, Regional Clinical Lead for the East of England

Dr Alistair Mackett is a Consultant Geriatrician who leads the Parkinson’s service for older people at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. He completed his training in the east of England and has worked in a number of Parkinson’s clinics across the area. His clinical and research interests are focused on the non-pharmacological management of motor symptoms in Parkinson's, including exercise and the use of technology. He also has a background in training and medical education and is currently the Training Program Director for Geriatric Medicine in the East of England.

“I’m extremely excited to be stepping into this new role and working with the wider team to improve the care of people living with Parkinson’s across the east of England. I am looking forward to making new connections across the region as well as reinvigorating established relationships. We have a lot of opportunities and events planned over the next 12 months so I’d encourage colleagues across the region to look out for these.”
 

Emily Henderson, Regional Clinical Lead for the South West

Professor Emily Henderson is Professor of Ageing and Movement Disorders at the University of Bristol. She runs a programme of research that spans basic science through to clinical trials and healthcare service innovation.

Emily is an Honorary Consultant Geriatrician with an active clinical practice at the Royal United Hospitals Bath, where she specialises in the care of older people with Parkinson's and related conditions. She is the Chief Investigator of the £2.1 million National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) multicentre drug trial, CHIEF PD, examining the effectiveness of rivastigmine for falls in Parkinson's. She also directs the PRIME Parkinson’s programme of research in Bristol and is immediate past Vice President of Academic Affairs for the British Geriatrics Society.
