Reflecting on our 2023 Parkinson's Nurse Induction

This year, we were delighted to have 30 new Parkinson’s nurses join us on the 4-week programme which was made up of a mixture of live and pre-recorded sessions. 

Delivered by experienced Parkinson's nurses for new nurses, the induction covered a variety of topics including:

• the 4 stages of Parkinson's
• medication management
• non-oral therapies
• an open Q&A session at the end of each week with our expert panel of renowned Parkinson’s nurses.

Positive feedback from attendees

Once again, feedback on the induction was extremely positive, with 100% of respondents saying they would recommend this course to other new Parkinson's nurses. Many also praised the virtual format of the induction.

One attendee said: 

"It was great to be able to access the course via Microsoft Teams rather than having to travel. It meant I could fit it in around work."

Reflecting on their experience of participating in the induction, another attendee said: 

"I am amazed at the knowledge and expertise of the Parkinson's nurses on the panel. One thing that really stood out to me is the respect they have for each other and the fact that they were all in agreement when answering the questions. 

"Their passion for Parkinson's and caring for people with the condition was evident. It was an excellent course and I would definitely recommend it to all new Parkinson's nurses!"

Another delegate added: 

"I am so glad that I completed this course. The resources and information that the Excellence Network provided and the knowledge that I gained is amazing and will enable me to provide the best care and support for my patients.”

When asked what they’d learnt during the Parkinson’s Excellence Network session, one nurse said: 

"The importance of ongoing career development and that there is so much learning, resources and support available from the Excellence Network. 

"There is a clear benefit to the Parkinson's community and other healthcare professionals and staff by knowing what is available and sharing this with your colleagues. Thank you!"
