Produced by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and endorsed by the Parkinson's Excellence Network, the guidance includes practical examples of interventions to enable occupational therapists to apply new and existing treatments in their day-to-day practice.
In 2018, the guide was updated to reflect the rapid growth in the evidence base across a broad range of treatments for Parkinson's, including evaluation of the impact of occupational therapy.
The best practice guidance aims to:
- place the person with Parkinson's and their family at the centre of all occupational therapy interventions
- support occupational therapists in the holistic assessment and treatment of people living with Parkinson's
- introduce novel and condition-specific occupational therapy interventions
- summarise and interpret the best available evidence to support best-practice occupational therapy intervention in the UK
The guide is next due for review in 2023.
