This revised competency framework describes the competencies (in terms of knowledge, education and skills) required by specialist nurses to provide safe and effective care for people with Parkinson's.

It identifies a range of areas of competency at different levels of practice that reflect both the core aspects of professional nursing practice and the aspects specific to Parkinson's, with a particular focus on the patient experience.
This revision has been led by the Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialist Association in collaboration with the Royal College of Nursing and the Excellence Network.
It links to key issues linked to Agenda for Change and is in line with the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF). Therefore it can be used to support nurses through the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s revalidation process.
