We're looking for 6 new trustees in 2025
Help shape the future of Parkinson's UK so that we can provide the best possible support to our community.
As a Parkinson's UK trustee you'll:
- help develop our new strategy for 2027 and beyond
- connect with other trustees, colleagues and volunteers who share your commitment
- develop new skills and gain valuable experience in governance and leadership.
Our trustees make sure we're delivering our strategy for the Parkinson's community and keep us on track financially.
As part of our normal trustee rotation, we're looking for 6 new trustees.
Diversity is important to us, so we're looking for people from different backgrounds with a variety of skills and experience.
Become an elected trustee
- We're looking for 3 elected trustees: 2 for England and 1 for Northern Ireland
- Elected trustees need to have been a Parkinson's UK member since at least 1 February 2025.
- You must live in England or Northern Ireland.
- You can nominate yourself but also need to be supported by 2 other members.
Become an appointed trustee
- Apply through a recruitment process based on your skills and experience
- We're looking for 3 appointed trustees.
- We're looking for 1 appointed trustee with skills in organisational development or strategic human resources, who'll also be chair of our People Committee.
- We're also looking for an appointed trustee with skills in traditional research and an appointed trustee with skills in drug discovery. These trustees will be appointed as chair and member respectively of the board which oversees our work to support Parkinson's related drug discovery and development research.
Time commitment
We know everyone's situation is different. Whether you're retired, working full time or have caring responsibilities, we'll work with you to understand how to make the role fit. If you're concerned about time commitment, please speak to our Governance Team who are here to help.
- You'll need to commit 12 to 15 days a year, or more if you're invited to be a committee chair or member. This includes meetings and preparation time. Some trustees choose to give additional time, for example by attending charity events and meetings.
- Term of office is usually a commitment of 4 years, with the possibility of a second term following that. We understand that a 4 year term might feel like a lot, especially for people with Parkinson's. Let us know if this is a concern and we'll work with you to find a solution.
To nominate yourself or support someone else as an elected trustee, to start your application to become an appointed trustee or for more information email the Governance team [email protected].
