Nominate your Parkinson's hero for a Community Award

The Community Awards are back for a second year. Nominate your unsung hero from the Parkinson's community.

Across the UK, people in the Parkinson's community are achieving great things every day. They’re inspiring others, making change happen and spreading positivity. But all too often this goes uncelebrated.

The Community Awards aim to change this, shining a light on the extraordinary people in the Parkinson's community doing amazing things, from people living with Parkinson's and their families to volunteers, carers, nurses and others.

Nominate an unsung hero

Do you know someone whose contributions to the Parkinson's community deserve recognition?

Nominate your unsung hero for a Community Award using our Google form.

The deadline is midnight on Monday 30 September.

We'll send all nominees a thank you card featuring artwork created by members of the Parkinson's community.

Nominations so far

We've already received over 30 nominations for this year's awards. These include people who run local branches, who have set up exciting initiatives such as boxing or football groups, and volunteers who are a beacon of hope to the Parkinson's community.

Highlights from the nominations so far include:

  • a nominee who has supported more than 750 people affected by Parkinson's over the years and is "intensely generous with her time, energy and compassion"
  • a nominee who works tirelessly on helping set up new walking football sessions to give people with Parkinson's the chance to try it in a safe and supportive environment
  • a nominee who set up a local young onset Parkinson's group.

Celebrating the nominees at Par-Con

We'll be celebrating all our Community Awards nominees at Par-Con on Saturday 12 October.

Par-Con is our free, 2-day in-person and online event for the Parkinson's community to hear from expert speakers, connect with others and learn more about living well with Parkinson's.

Why not come along? Get your free ticket for Par-Con and the Community Awards.

The Community Awards will be hosted by Paul Mayhew-Archer, a multi-award-winning writer whose credits include The Vicar of Dibley, Mrs Brown's Boys and the screen version of Roald Dahl's Esio Trot.

Paul was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2011. In 2023, he and 5 friends (BBC presenters Jeremy Paxman, Rory Cellan-Jones, Mark Mardell and Gillian Lacey-Solymar, plus judge Nick Mostyn) got together to make the Movers and Shakers podcast.

The podcast has become more popular and influential than any of them thought possible, winning the 2024 Broadcasting Press Guild's Podcast of The Year Award. Paul also travels around the country performing his one-man show, Incurable Optimist.
