Gary Shaughnessy's 2024 challenges
Our Chair Gary Shaughnessy was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2015. Every year he takes on multiple fundraising challenges and has raised over £600,000 for Parkinson’s UK and other charities close to his heart. Find out what he’s doing in 2024, how you can sponsor him, and find a challenge of your own.
Hadrian’s Wall to Hastings
Starting in Hexham on 26 May, Gary will cycle the 639 miles from Hadrian's Wall to Hastings in just 6 days. Along the way, he'll stop at Thirsk, Cleethorpes, Kings Lynn, Great Yarmouth, and Maldon, before arriving in Hastings on 31 May.
If you're local to any of the stops, we'd love you to join us to cheer Gary on. View Gary's cycle route on the Komoot website or email [email protected] for more details and timings.
2,025 miles for 2024
This year, Gary's will cover more than 2,025 miles across lots of different events.
One of his bigger challenges will see him join another committed Parkinson's runner to complete 10 marathons in 10 days, twice! Visit Gary's Facebook page to find out more and stay up to date on his progress.
Other exciting challenges for this year include:
- 2 marathons with his sons, Michael and Daniel, in Prague and London

- a cycle through Norway to the Arctic Circle with a group of people with Parkinson's
- the Westport Sea 2 Summit challenge in Ireland, a race involving running, cycling and climbing.
More events will be confirmed later this year.
